Like, if you’re gonna be an adult who’s really into children’s media the least you can do is actually internalize all those themes of being a good and kind person
Ditto. Though I personally would love a main Woman Rider, I don’t think Toei is brave enough to have a woman be the lead in their flagship “male” action franchise. They aim the Kamen Rider series at young to middle school boys and I have a feeling they would worry about backlash if they were to make the focus character female.
That’s a sad fact for the moment and one I don’t see changing until there is a massive shift in the perception of women’s roles in general. Heck, we’ve seen what happens when you try to cast women in what are traditionally seen as ‘men’s roles’ or ‘men’s franchises’ in the US *cough* Ghostbusters *cough* Star Wars *cough* so just imagine how it must be in Japan.
It sucks. It sucks hard. Sadly, there is little we as fans not even in the demographic or counted in the viewership being from outside Japan, can do about it.
